Spectrum Ensemble is a new music group based in Denton, TX, advocating for increased LGBTQ+ representation in the concert music world.
The ensemble actively commissions and champions works by Queer composers, performing them along with works by famous LGBTQ+ composers throughout history like Bernstein and Tchaikovsky. In less than two years, Spectrum Ensemble has presented concerts, clinics, and more at venues/universities in Texas, Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois, and Arizona. Spectrum also works to donate proceeds from concerts to LGBTQ+ charities.
Since its debut concert in May 2019, Spectrum has commissioned five eclectic new works by queer composers, showcasing a wide variety of contemporary elements, including electronics, theatrics, improvisation, vocals, and socially-conscious themes.
Marginalized communities must always fight for their voices to be heard. Spectrum Ensemble aims to bring the voices of our community to the spotlight, all while making great music.
