Ian Striedter was born in Pasadena, CA in 1994, grew up in Irvine, CA, and lives in Boston, MA. He began his first musical studies at the age of five by joining the Southern California Children's Chorus and continued singing until the age of ten. Ian discovered the trombone in a fifth grade band class and quickly fell in love with the instrument. While attending University High School, Ian participated in local, state, and national honors ensembles including CBDA Wind Symphony and MFA Honor Orchestra of America. He also served as principal trombone of the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra from 2010-2012, performing as a soloist in his final appearance before graduation. Ian earned his Bachelor of Music degree in trombone performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in 2016. He additionally earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Recording Arts and Sciences and a Masters of Arts degree in Audio Science, completing his course of study in 2017. Ian has a wide breadth of musical experience in a variety of large and small ensemble settings. Notable performances include appearances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His quartet was featured in recital as winners of the 2018 and 2019 American Trombone Workshop National Quartet Competition. During his summers, Ian has performed as part of the Aspen Music Festival in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, Ian was awarded a fellowship with the prestigious Verbier Festival Orchestra where he returned in 2017 and 2018. In 2019, Ian completed his Master of Music degree in trombone performance at the New England Conservatory studying with Boston Symphony Orchestra principal trombonist Toby Oft. Ian currently serves as a trombone fellow with The Orchestra Now at Bard College in Red Hook, NY.
