Harry Oehler, trombone

Harry Oehler joined the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra as Principal Bass Trombone in May 2019. An active performer, Mr. Oehler has performed both nationally and internationally in orchestras, chamber groups, and as a soloist. He has traveled to Italy twice to perform with the Music Academy International Festival Orchestra. Mr. Oehler is a founding member of the Old Bay Brass Quintet, a premier chamber ensemble in the Mid-Atlantic area. A sought after arranger, he has also had his arrangements performed by ensembles across the country, including the St. Louis Symphony low brass section. 

Mr. Oehler received a Bachelor’s Degree in Bass Trombone Performance and Music Education as well as a Master of Music Degree from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Oehler is honored to have studied with Blair Bollinger, Jim Olin, and Randy Campora as principal teachers and David Fedderly and Joe Burgstaller as mentors. 

He has had the pleasure of performing under the baton of Marin Alsop, James Blachly, Leon Fleischer, David Jackson, Hannu Lintu, Edward Polochick, Leonard Slatkin, Markus Stenz, and David Zinman. Mr. Oehler is a member of the honor society Pi Kappa Lambda and a proud Eagle Scout.

Originally from Collegeville, PA, Harry Oehler currently resides in Baltimore, MD with his fiancée, opera singer Bailey Jo Hutton, and cat, Milo. Harry plays a Shires TBBO-Blair Bollinger Model Bass Trombone with a Schilke Model 60 mouthpiece.
