Athens Short Bones Quartet and The Rare Form Quartet

Click here to stream this event.

Athens Short Bones Quartet was formed at the University of Georgia in Fall of 2019. It was started as a fun way to play music together, whether it be chorales, jazz, original trombone arrangements, or transcriptions. But as we worked together more and more throughout the year, we became more and more motivated to further refine our skills as a quartet. Now, a year later, we are ready to showcase the improvement and group dynamic that we have brought to the table with various upcoming performances. Stay tuned to our social media (@the_asbq) for further content!

Members:

Wyatt Dover is a second year Music Education Major. Though born in Madison County, he’s always considered himself to be an Athenian and he’s pretty darn happy to be honking bass at UGA. Wyatt has always had a hankering for music, coming from a musical family, but in particular has a fondness for old big band charts. He is grateful for the opportunity and not only support other musicians, but to also have the chance to do it playing beside his brothers.

Ivan Baquerizo is a second year transfer student, studying Music Education and minoring in Jazz. Before transferring the University of Georgia from North Georgia, Ivan spent his time deciding which career path to pursue. After exploring various options, the one that stuck the most was music. While he spent time deciding whether or not this was his path, he played various live concerts in Athens, GA at venues like the Georgia Theater, The Caledonia Lounge, and other restaurant venues. After a lot of encouragement from both family and friends, he then decided to further pursue this path. With the goal of not only becoming a better musician but also someone who could inspire others to feel confident in this career path, he chose to pursue music education while also preparing to pursue a career as a soloist.

Tylan Davis is a sophomore Music Education major at the University of Georgia. Raised in Milledgeville, GA, Tylan always had aspirations to move out of the small town and become an influential and successful educator. He is a huge believer in music as the universal language that connects us all, and wants to express this thought through his teachings. Upon graduation he plans to pursue a career in Music Education teaching in public schools, and eventually going back to college to obtain a master's degree.

Dalton Hooper is from Braselton, Georgia and is currently a sophomore at UGA on track to graduate with a Bachelor’s in Music Education and Performance. Afterwards, he plans to attend graduate school and pursue his aspirations of performing in an orchestra and as a solo artist.

The Rare Form Quartet was formed at the University of Georgia in the Fall of 2020. Our group aims to be a variety quartet—playing all genres of music with the goal of sharing our music-making with as many listeners as possible. Mostly composed of first year students, our quartet has grown very quickly as we refine our chamber music skill set with challenging, yet entertaining, repertoire. As our quartet ages, we plan to do many more performances to showcase our favorite tunes.

Members:

Jonas Ventresca is a first year undergraduate Music Education major from Kennesaw, Georgia. Growing up in Cobb County, a public school system with access to a lot of resources and funding, Jonas has been inspired by the many opportunities he encountered in high school, including leading large outdoor performance ensembles and performing with wind, jazz, orchestral, and chamber ensembles. This has inspired Jonas to enter the music education field with ambitions to bring vast musical opportunities to young students. Jonas believes public music education is extremely valuable as it provides students the chance to build camaraderie with one another, the chance to master a skill, and the chance to create art.

David Cain is a first year Music Education student at the University of Georgia. Raised in a small city in North Georgia, David developed his passion for music in various state-wide ensembles throughout high school and decided to pursue music in college and beyond. He plans to obtain a master’s degree in music performance after graduating.

Iain Cooke is from Cumming, GA, and has been playing the trombone for 8 years.  As a Music Therapy major, music holds a special significance to him not only as performance art but as a therapeutic method.  After college, Iain hopes to get a job in the Music Business, with a possible Music Therapy practice on the side.

Kaylin Cox is from Brunswick, Georgia located in The Golden Isles and is a first year student majoring in Music Education. After finishing her bachelors degree, she plans on pursuing her masters degree at the University of Georgia. Kaylin aspires to work for the public school system as a high school band director.
